I went too, and along with two young japanese programmers we did <a href=\"http:\/\/globalgamejam.org\/2014\/games\/vs\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/globalgamejam.org\/2014\/games\/vs', 'this game.']);\" title=\":( VS :)\"  target=\"_blank\">this game.<\/a>\u00a0It was a great experience and I&#8217;d like to share with you a bit of the process.<\/p>\n<p>So <em>Kyoto&#8217;s Game Jam<\/em> was <strong>kind of relaxed<\/strong>. While other people in Osaka where starting on the evening of the 24th <strong>we gathered at 9 a.m. on the 25th<\/strong>. We started by watching this video:<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uLz4cAOZB8w\" height=\"250\" width=\"450\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Then we started to discuss ideas on the whiteboards based on this year&#8217;s theme (&#8220;<em>We don&#8217;t see things as they are, we see things as we are<\/em>&#8220;) and split into teams. I was involved in a discussion of a game that turned out to be<a href=\"http:\/\/globalgamejam.org\/2014\/games\/emotions\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/globalgamejam.org\/2014\/games\/emotions', ' this one']);\"  target=\"_blank\"> this one<\/a>. But since we where 6 people (4 programmers) talking about that game we decided to split into two teams. My team were two programmers and me. <strong>We thought about a few ideas<\/strong> and eventually we sticked with one to be able to <strong>start developing (at around noon)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/face.png\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article-int', 'http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/face.png', '']);\" ><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-994\" alt=\"face\" src=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/face.png\" width=\"44\" height=\"51\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body.png\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article-int', 'http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body.png', '']);\" ><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-995\" alt=\"body\" src=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body.png\" width=\"128\" height=\"128\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/bullet_sad.png\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article-int', 'http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/bullet_sad.png', '']);\" ><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-996\" alt=\"bullet_sad\" src=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/bullet_sad.png\" width=\"17\" height=\"17\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first thing I did was <strong>paint a few <a href=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/?p=381\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article-int', 'http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/?p=381', 'placeholders']);\" title=\"The Making of\u2026 (III)\"  target=\"_blank\">placeholders<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of background and the player so my fellow programmers would be able to work on the game and see results before any &#8220;final&#8221; art was done. After that I did<strong> the player&#8217;s graphics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body01e.png\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article-int', 'http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body01e.png', '']);\"  target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-997\" alt=\"body01e\" src=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body01e-1024x1024.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body01e-1024x1024.png 1024w, http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body01e-150x150.png 150w, http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body01e-300x300.png 300w, http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/body01e.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And then I struggled for a long time trying to get the right style for the background that was supposed to be like <strong>big random tiles<\/strong> that could fit with any other <strong>in a 3&#215;3 grid<\/strong>. For this I used <em>Garageband<\/em>. The first music style that came to my mind (only god knows why) was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qURei6svd90&amp;list=PLAD2502F2CB75CC90\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qURei6svd90&amp;list=PLAD2502F2CB75CC90', 'THIS']);\"  target=\"_blank\">THIS<\/a>. But the music I did was much simpler than that. The moment I felt I got<strong> something I could hear repeated for long enough and not get too sick<\/strong> of it I stopped composing. Of course I would have liked to lengthen it and add a melody to it if we had had the time. I recorded some <strong>sounds I made with my mouth or hands<\/strong> with my phone (which I bet was the best mic I was carrying) and then changed the pitch, added echoes, removed noise, etc. on <em>Audacity<\/em>. Here are the sounds\u00a0along the original recording in a <a href=\"http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/?attachment_id=1011\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article-int', 'http:\/\/xanday.unifstudios.net\/?attachment_id=1011', 'zip file']);\"  target=\"_blank\">zip file<\/a>. The death sound was made with <em>Garageband<\/em> as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finally I did two screens on how to play and control scheme, and the title<\/strong> of the game (we didn&#8217;t have a title so I made something up a few minutes before the deadline!). So that&#8217;s the story behind <em>Geometry Ikaruga Wars<\/em>. I hope you liked it.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jiVv4S4iVow\" height=\"250\" width=\"450\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>At 4 p.m. we did a<strong> short presentation<\/strong> of the games and after that we fixed a few things and <strong>uploaded<\/strong> it to the <em>Global Game Jam<\/em> site (again a few minutes before 6 p.m. that we where supposed to leave so it&#8217;s not the best upload ever I&#8217;m afraid ^^&#8217;). Anyway.
